What types of home security systems are best for apartments?

I live in an apartment with my girlfriend. I work at a bar late on the weekends, often leaving her home alone until I am done with my shift early in the morning. We have a deadbolt locked door into our apartment but the door is older and our neighborhood is somewhat questionable. What would be the best security system for keeping her safe while I’m at work. It has to be something that will not sound when I get home from work, waking the neighbors. Hoping to not spend a ton of money or having to wire something. Any advice would help…

Remington 870 Express 7 round 12 gauge pump

Also available in 20 gauge if you think she can’t handle the 12 which most girls can if shown proper technique.

I would recommend 4-buck rounds to prevent over penetration being your in an apartment.

An alarm system would be pointless that’s more for if someone isn’t home, a cell phone dialing 911 is the same as an alarm system. Someone can still kick your door down with an alarm system.

If your dead set on an alarm still maybe check this one out. It sounds a 120-decibel siren after 30 seconds (gives you time to enter code to deactivate when you get home) loud enough to alert you or your neighbors of a possible break-in.

You should look into a wireless security system. They do not need to be permanently installed, and you can easily take them with you when you move. You can even install them yourself. They all have a better backup and continue to work even when there is a power outage. They are just as good as traditional wired systems. You can even control them and arm your system from an iphone, blackberry or via the internet.

LifeShield makes a great system – very reliable and highly rated. You don’t need to pay for the equipment up front – you lease it and just pay for monthly monitoring.
