What do you think about CCTV cameras and goverment control?

I have to do an english project and it said to ask people so please anwser as truthfully as you can….

thank-you

I have mixed feelings. I don’t like the idea of being watched but I know that these things have helped solve crimes and hopefully deter some criminals. I’m not sure that the later is true, they clever criminals just find ways to avoid being caught on camera and others just choose to carry out their crimes in places without cameras.
It is a shame that we need – or think we need such things. There was no CCTV when I was young, I don’t feel more at risk now but I am seldom in the town or city at night. I do worry about the safety of my teenager and like to think that CCTV is a way of helping with this.
If you have nothing to hide then you don’t need to be worried about being watched – as long as it doesn’t progress and get used in more sinister ways.
Good luck with the project.

CCTV cameras – some need improving, (e.g. the ones you see on tv, those ones which make criminals move like a robot, also cctv cameras should have mics too)

Government Control- I think there is a lack of this, too many people are getting away with things.

i think they are an invasion of privacy……and here in SC they were voted down on stoplight cameras in several instances due to privacy invasion ….also columbia was not allowed to put random cameras up………

private citizens and businesses can put up there own cameras on there own property…which is how it should b……. government monitoring is not a good thing…….and does not stop crimes….but instead feeds bureaucracy by letting government hand out random tickets fines ect…..

The British have exactly what they are prepared to tolerate. Personally I would have them all torn down. they are a waste of time. Nine out of ten that they identify get off in court anyway, so where is the justification? Contracts for labour party friends and family share holders. More booty for the thieves in parliament.

Personally, I have no problem with being "watched" in public by a camera, it’s no more intrusive than a copper walking down the road or standing on a street corner watching what is going on – which is what so many people seem to want to see back. But then, I’m not up to anything I shouldn’t be . . .

why they need to know what I am doing? Where I am going? how often ? Why cannot live my life as I want if I do not do nothing illegal? They want stop criminals activities and that is OK but with the CCTV are putting criminals and honest all in the same basket and that cut your freedom. What is better a few criminals out or the whole population under surveillance with the excuse to catch friday or Saturday night a drunk pissing in a fountain. No I am not in favour of CCTV and other way should be implemented to catch criminals. May be that is not the right motive for the CCTV.

you could argue that it is against the European Convention on Human Rights or the Human Rights Act 1998 article 8. If in the U.S maybe unconstitutional? (I be british). There is no proof that CCTV monitoring has solved any or prevented any crimes, but there is substantial proof that it is a great burden to the tax payer costing £500 million over the last decade! With 80% of crime still unsolved, and just as much state monitoring as china and russia! GREAT GREAT BRITAIN EH!
