This could be a VHS tape based or hard disc drive based unit. For consumer grade, Lorex and Swann make a few hard disc drive based surveillance recording systems. Instead of connect the surveillance cameras to the TV, connect them to the surveillance DVR, then connect the DVR's monitor to the TV so you can see what is being recorded.<br><b>References : </b><br> A "video surveillance recorder". Instead of connect the surveillance cameras to the TV, connect them to the surveillance DVR, then connect the DVR’s monitor to the TV so you can see what is being recorded.
