i want to record my cctv camera via pc is there any disadvantages i i keep my pc running all that time or can i do anything to cut the some electricity like put it on sleep etc.

It should be fine. Put the PC somewhere cool, dry, and with ventilation better than a cabinet so it doesn’t overheat. If you want it and the cameras to run through power failures, then you need an uninteruptable power source.

I’m not sure what you do when you run out of hard drive space for recording though. You’ll have to have old video deleted every now and then.

Actually the most energy efficient thing to use is a laptop, but i’m not sure if those suit your purposes.

No, you can’t really do anything to reduce power usage. The best hope is to use high efficiency PC components (low clocked core2duo, high efficiency PSU) and forget add-on cards like a graphics card.
