I live in michigan where it is illegal to record someone without their knowledge.. Does this law apply to personal security cameras? So if someone is in my home and commit a crime, wouldn’t I be entitled to using my security camera footage as proof?

Yes…security footage would be allowed…put a small sign in your yard that says"property under surveillance.

Another person would not have a reasonable expectation of privacy in your home – especially if they were on the property illegally.

It depends on the Definition of recording. Voice or video. Many laws were written before video was so easy. Most of those old laws are about recording a voice like a phone call without a signal it is being recorded. To be safe check with your local police department. Personally I would say if you have a sign on your property stating you use video surveillance you are ok. There is no law I know of anywhere that prevents your photo being taken in public. Now if you are using the camera in a bedroom with the wrong intentions you may have trouble with that.
