How to fix security camera problem?

I have an infrared security camera that is having issues with "seeing" through a window after dark. Would installing a separate infrared light outside the window fix this or would it be a waste of money?

More than likely, it would be a waste of money.

With security cameras, indoor cameras take care of the inside and outdoor camera, well… are for the outside. If your worried about the camera being outside, put it in a vandal proof housing in a discrete location.

You will need a separate IR Flood Illuminator outside the window and the ability to turnoff the ir on the camera.

Too much IR reflects back through the window when the camera is close to the window. This reflected energy is much higher than the normal return and essentially blinds the sensor.

Using the outdoor illuminator to light up the yard should work. However, if your have to run power outside, it is probably easier to buy an outdoor ip camera and mount the camera outdoors.
