network firewalls are pretty good as far as direct attacks go. they can block inbound connections as well as outbound connections. Intrusion detection systems are great for preventing active attacks. Make sure all computers on your network have the most recent system updates, any services that your company may use like FTP or SMTP make sure those programs are installed with the most recent versions available.

Binding a tcp port to a backdoor is a common inbound attack. In this example an attacker will already have access to your system to make the backdoor listen on one of your server’s virtual ports. Then the attack will connect to the backdoor listening on that port. (In other words, the attacker makes your computer listen for future attacks).

Reverse tcp connection is a common outbound attack, in which the attacker makes your server connect back to the attacker. This isn’t effective if the attacker wants to continue having access to your system, however he/she will have all the privileges they need to setup an inbound connection.

Some solutions I recommend for you: invest in both a host-based intrusion detection system, as well as a network-based intrusion detection system. check up on your firewall logs daily (or hire someone to do this for you). I don’t recommend anti-virus programs because they often produce false positives to convince you that "they work." They’re more designed for reaction rather than prevention, where as intrusion detection systems are designed for both prevention and reaction (assuming you keep their software up to date).

If you do decide to get an anti-virus program, atleast get a free one, or a trial version before you decide to buy.

Also, make sure you remind your employees to practice safe internet practices (not clicking suspicious links, not opening spam/suspicious e-mails). Remind your employees to also not release any sensitive business information (financial information, and network access credentials are common examples). Finally, make sure when you dispose of sensitive information that’s on paper to shred before thrown away.

You need to give more information?

What kind of security? Anti Virus? Firewall? Internal network policies? VPN?

What you asked is fairly broad
