My bike got stolen and there is a cctv camera right next to it and I was wondering how I could get hold of that footage as the police isn’t doing anything about it yet.

Do not request footage, ask permission to see it and if the person who stole the Bicycle is recognizable then ask them to retain that portion for the police, then go to the police department and tell them what you observed and they should be willing to look at it. The only other way would be through the courts.

You can ask the person who owns the camera for a copy of the video, but they are under no obligation to give you that copy. You could ask them to at least archive the footage for when (and if) the police come to get it, if they won’t give it to you.

Or you can pay an attorney to go to court and get a judge to sign a subpoena for the video, which the lawyer will be happy to do for a few hundred dollars (or more).
