I am confused, I’ve been comparing a lot of security camera systems on different websites and biggest difference I see is in price. 8 camera system from $700 to $5000, 16 camera from $1300 to $10,000 and they all do same things according to description. Anyone ran into this?
I’m professional cctv installer. Some websites are just trying to rip you off saying they have best stuff and they are using their own model number, so you can’t find it anywhere else online. Here is some good reading about it, pretty good cctv tutorial for first time buyers
Hopefully this will help you buying your cctv system.

The main difference you’re probably seeing in the price of cameras is the "cheap" ones are old, "Analog" style cameras, whereas the "expensive" ones are probably new "IP" or "Megapixel" cameras which are in High Definition and use network data/cable to transmit the signal. Within those different categories there are hundreds of variables that will change the price as well such as Analog/Digital, Fixed/Pan Tilt Zoom, type of lens, image resolution, etc.
It really depends on what you are planning to use it for in order to say which would be the "best" system to buy – just remember that analog cameras are technology that has been out for over 30 years and will give you a max resolution of around 640×480 pixels.
Hope this helps.
