Home security, Staffy Guard Dog better than alarm

As the economic collapse takes hold here in New Zealand crime is on the increase. I have had cars stolen from our yard and fuel drained from one of my trucks. They used a screw driver to bash a hole in the bottom of the tank, took what they could carry and let the rest of the full tank of Diesel poor out on to the ground. I have a great alarm and camera system now but the best security in my opinion is a good guard dog. You have to love dogs as they need your companionship, you can’t leave …

Any Large dog weither it be in Height in muscle weight will make a great anti theft tool. Our family have had German Shepherds for the past 30 years and they make great family dogs aswel as stopping anyone who dosnt know them in there tracks while they suss out wether there friendly or not :) we recently got a staffy and hes rly only a good guard dog in the way that hes barking and scratching at the door waiting to greet the person whos outside XD

Having a dog is a big responsibility, you need to know what you are going to do with it if you go on holiday etc. Also are you in town or the country? Will it be an inside or outside dog, inside is better because if someone gets into your house you want the dog to be the first to find them. Our dogs sleep in our room so an intruder has to get past them to get to us. Big dogs cost a lot to feed. Our English staffy weights 21kgs so is not to expensive to feed. He has short hair so is good 4 inside

Too true.I have five dogs and they even let me know when the deer are on the property. I think bully breeds are the best dogs. I have an American Pitbull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier. My Pitbulls love to do everything with me like hunting, fishing(my male pitbull has actually caught salmon), swimming, you name it they love it.They are also great loving family dogs and protective of me and my wife. Dogs can sense things we can’t like good people from the bad people. Dogs just rule.

    Absolutely true!
We have two dogs that are constantly watching.
Just by their bark you know what’’s going on. They have a bark for passers by. They have a bark for “on the property” and a separate one for “at the door”.
And unlike an alarm, they can’t be turned off.

Very nice looking, healthy and laid back dogs. I agree. They are super companions and I always feel safe knowing my dog will alert me if anyone comes near our driveway, let alone our house. Thanks for the video clip.

I have a fox terrier and she is a great alarm dog. She distinguishes friend or foe from inside the home . I know when someone is there when she gets up and wags her tail or gets up and starts barking.

Ha ha ha that’s funny! we used to have to hunt in the garden for our eggs too. If you clip the feathers on one wing with some scissors it makes their wing unbalanced so they can’t fly. There is no blood and it doesn’t hurt them doing this. Just feel along the outstretched wing for the bones and don’t get to close to them. It’s the same as clipping your finger nails. You only have to do it once as they forget that they can fly out once their feathers grow back.

I noticed your chickens in a pen but dont they just fly out…my chickens fly up to the top of the hay shed to lay eggs!…I need a frikken ladder and detective skills to find the eggs.
