I have a DVR which is three floors down from where my computer is. I was wondering if I could access the DVR security footage on my computer, using anything other than running a CAT-6 cable through the building.

Yes you can but is your DVR made for this type of access!

I fitted one last week for a friend his was a Swann DVR4-1200 Digital CCTV Security Camera System" that has •Remote viewing. his router is down stairs and the DVR was 2 floors uo so I had to use a electical ring main units to get it wireless working up-staires.

So check out your make and modle to see if yours can.

    strongly doubt it
even if were possible it would probably be more of a hassle to make it work than to move the dvr or the computer itself

if it is even possible it would likely need a program or the dvr would have to have indexing and have lan connection

He can now view is anywhere in the world via any computer and also acess it on his smart phone.

    Good luck.

Could try this if you can use cat 5

If you connect the dvr by cat 5 to one of these

then in the same building connect the other to your computer.

Must be in the same building and depends how the building is wired up.
