Is it legal to put up a surveillance camera in an apartment complex?

My neighbor is putting up a surveillance camera and since both of our apartments are in the corner, it is aimed directly on my yard. My younger sister loves to go outside and now I feel someones watching her and some of the other neighbor’s kids. My apartment complex has a lot of restrictions, too. This apartment complex isn’t very ‘wealthy’ and they can only afford one surveillance camera, so I know they didn’t ask him to put it up. I was just wondering is it legal for him to put up the surveillance camera aiming at my yard?

Yes it is legal in the common areas of an apartment complex for obvious security purposes to reduce criminal acts. It is only illegal inside an apartment, which is the private domain of a tenant.

I would like to put surveillance cameras around my rock quarry. I’ve had a few kids jumping off the rocks this past summer and would like to keep the rocks off limits. I would like to know if I could get a few wireless cameras (sound is not needed) that could broadcast a live feed showing me what is happening. Any suggestions?

I have a monitor from a pc that we don’t use anymore. I want to use this with our surveillance camera. The monitor has USB ports on the side and the camera uses yellow red and white RCA cables. Can I use the monitor without connecting it to a pc? Amazon sells RCA to USB cables but I dont know which to use.

I dont know what you mean by not knoing what to use, but get the rca to usb, and plug it in to both sides of the component, and you should be fine!

Our landlord came to do repairs and unbeknown to us installed a surveillance camera in the entrance way of our rental house, she did not ask permission and did not receive it from us. she said it was for our protection.

It can be outside, or in a common area if it is a shared rental. It can not be inside the house is you are renting the entire house.

okay, I have a surveillance camera with a wireless receiver. The receiver normally only will plug into a TV. Well, I want to record from a remote location where it would be hugely inconvenient to put a TV anywhere where the receiver could pick up signal from the camera. Is there some kind of recording device I could buy to record from the receiver? It would also need a small image so I can make sure the receiver is getting the right signal.

Yes, you can. You don’t need to look at a monitor
unless you want to or have something else to do.
Just connect it (camera) to the input of a DVR
(or a VCR) and connect that to your TV set. This
should work well for you.

Hello I was wondering if there is a type of surveillance camera that I could put in my car and it would record to a pc or somewhere outside of my car automatically? So say if someone uses my car and I am at home I can look on my computer or tv and see what is happening in my car live.

If you mean to use it like if it was a USB webcam, it is not clear that this is an option. Go to the manufacturer’s website and check if they have drivers for this camera, sometimes they provide it. When the drivers are installed on the computer, third party software can use the IP cam as if it was a normal USB cam.

Our gated community needs a surveillance camera. Our gate was hit and broken two times, but we have been unable to determine who did it (probably am impatient driver). If we had a camera that could capture video for 24-48 hours (and then recycle), we could determine who is responsible for future incidents. Since there is only one entrance to the community (besides climbing over fences), this would also be a deterrent to criminals entering the community. There is a light pole with electricity near the entrance to the community, so power and view plane issues are not a problem. We just need to be sure the resolution of the images is sufficient to capture faily good images (license plate numbers, etc). This is Altanta, so severe weather is also not an issue. Finally, we are a small gated community, so we cannot afford very expensive options. Reliable, inexpensive solutions are preferred over high cost, high-tech solutions.

I would definitely get a camera that has a weather housing for rain and bad weather (even if it’s not severe like the snow you had a day ago!), as well as infrared capability for night views.

Pair it up with a digital recorder of some kind (also available at the same website) and you’re in business.
