Can I put Surveillance Camera in my living room if I am renting one of the room in the house?

I saw some people put surveillance camera to watch their babysitter. I also ask a cop re this. He said it is my house and I have all the right. Is it legal not letting my tenant know about the surveillance camera?

You have to tell them as they have a reasonable expectation of privacy, which is the criteria. They can run around naked in the living room since they live there and have a right to know you are filming them.

I know you can put the camera up and i don’t think you HAVE to tell your tenant as long as the camera can’t see in his personal space such as a bathroom or his bedroom. I would also be carful if you are a male owner and have a female renting the space. (i say this only bc you know that the girl could make up anything and you dont want to be cared for spying on her or what ever people make this up sometimes you know so be careful) but i think this is a great! idea! call your local police department and ask them and also get it in writing!!!
